I'm Jain, the person behind TMPGen.

My background is in civil engineering, with a focus on highway engineering. I started out as a Traffic Controller, moved into CAD work, spent time in design, and eventually ended up working as a Road Controlling Authority coordinator in the Wellington region. Along the way I used a lot of different software, some good, some not so good.

One thing that always stood out was how much effort went into drawing a Traffic Management Plan. Not the planning itself, but the actual drawing. Finding the site, setting everything up, placing signs and cones, getting the layout right. Repeated across every job, it adds up fast.

I've also been interested in software development for a while, and since 2022 I've been doing freelance web development alongside my day job. At some point those two things came together. I had the industry experience to know what was actually needed, and the technical skills to build it.

That's how TMPGen started. A drawing tool built specifically for New Zealand traffic management, by someone who has actually used the process it's trying to improve.

I built it because I think it's genuinely useful, not just for experienced practitioners, but for anyone who needs to put together a TMP. That's still what drives it.
